Forwarding receipts from Gmail
When some services can't send receipts to your designated Cardboard billing email, you can set up Gmail forwarding to automatically send those receipts to our system. This ensures all your receipts are captured and matched with payments automatically.
When you need Gmail forwarding
Gmail forwarding is useful when:
- A service only sends receipts to specific individual email addresses.
- You can't change the billing email address in the service settings.
Finding your Cardboard receipt email address
Before setting up forwarding, you'll need your unique Cardboard receipt email address:
- Sign into your Cardboard account.
- Go to Inbox > Emails
- Copy the general receipt email address displayed on this page.

Creating forwarding filters
You can now create custom filters to forward only receipt emails from specific services. This gives you full control over which emails are sent to Cardboard while keeping your personal emails separate.
Step 1: Create a new filter
- In Gmail settings, click the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab
- Click Create a new filter
Step 2: Set filter criteria
Configure the filter based on your needs:
- From: Enter the sender's email address (e.g., noreply@servicecompany.com)
- Subject (optional): Include keywords like "receipt," "invoice," or "billing"
- Has the words (optional): Add specific terms that appear in receipts

Step 3: Apply filter actions
- Click Create filter
- Check Forward it to and select your Cardboard email address
- Optionally check Apply the label and create a label like "Forwarded to Cardboard"
- Click Create filter
