Testing users, not patience
How Thomas Kjellberg, co-founder at Testflow, built enterprise-grade financial control while staying lean and focused.
About Testflow
Testflow is a leading digital user testing platform in the Nordic market, serving enterprise customers including DNB, Schibsted, and Vipps. The platform connects businesses with real users through integrated video technology, helping teams validate products and improve user experiences. With approximately 40 enterprise customers, Testflow focuses on supporting large product organizations with established user testing processes and dedicated budgets.
Operating with a modern, automation-first approach, Testflow demonstrates how SaaS companies can deliver enterprise-grade services while remaining focused and efficient.
When financial infrastructure becomes mission-critical
For Testflow, uninterrupted SaaS operations are essential. Every subscription underpins the platform that delivers critical insights to some of Norway’s largest enterprises. At the same time, the company was pursuing ISO certification, which required clear control of subprocessors, vendor management, and access reviews.
“When our previous provider shut down, we had just one week to move everything,” recalls Thomas Kjellberg, Co-Founder of Testflow. “That urgency made us realize robust financial infrastructure is just as important as product infrastructure. If even one payment fails, it can impact the services our enterprise customers depend on. That level of risk is unacceptable.”
When the crisis hit, Testflow needed a reliable and future-proof alternative. Their accountant had already been encouraging them to look into virtual cards, and Cardboard entered the Norwegian market at exactly the right time.
“What sets Cardboard apart is the combination of robust technology with truly responsive local support,” Thomas explains. “With other providers, you submit a ticket and wait days. With Cardboard, we have direct access and trust—we know we can count on them.”
Transforming financial operations
The shift had an immediate impact. By using Cardboard’s monitoring and virtual card capabilities, Testflow has achieved a 75–80% reduction in administrative costs related to SaaS expense management—cutting receipt-related expenses from 4,000–5,000 NOK per month down to about 1,000 NOK.
“We’ve moved from chasing receipts to having a real-time overview,” Thomas says. “Our accountant can now focus on strategic financial work, not manual administration.”
Virtual cards have become central to Testflow’s processes. “They give us control and transparency that a single company card never could,” Thomas notes. “We can manage services at a granular level, track spend per vendor, and even automate workflows such as categorizing lunch expenses. It’s a level of precision we wouldn’t want to be without.”
Supporting growth and compliance
As Testflow expands, partnering with Norstat to access 2.5 million respondents across 19 countries, having enterprise-grade financial infrastructure is vital.
“Cardboard has become part of our compliance journey,” Thomas explains. “As we prepare for ISO certification, having clear vendor management and automated documentation is invaluable. It allows us to maintain the financial control of a large organization while operating with the focus and agility of a lean SaaS company.”
Advice for growing companies
Thomas’s advice is straightforward: establish strong control early.
“When we started out, compliance wasn’t the main concern—it was about using our limited time efficiently,” he explains. “The sooner you put trusted automation in place, the more you can focus on product and customers. As you grow, those same tools naturally become the foundation for compliance and enterprise-grade control.”
