Bringing structure to SaaS chaos

How Juan Huguet, co-founder at anyformat, achieved 95% SaaS expense automation by using Cardboard.

About anyformat

anyformat is an agentic document intelligence platform that transforms unstructured documents into clean, structured, and actionable data automatically. Its platform parses, extracts, classifies, and routes information from contracts, invoices, emails, and presentations across any format and layout, combining generative AI with no-code workflow orchestration built for enterprise-grade accuracy and scale.

Co-founded in Madrid in 2024 by Juan Huguet-García and Diego Pérez-Sastre. The company was born out of a direct understanding of how much enterprise value sits locked inside unstructured documents. Today, anyformat is trusted by organizations including L'Oréal Group, IAG Group, Iberia, and the Singapore Government, delivering results such as a 60% reduction in invoice processing time and 99% extraction accuracy for L'Oréal's commercial invoicing team. The company operates from Madrid and is actively expanding its presence across Spain and the European Union.

A team built for speed, held back by manual processes

As an AI-native startup, anyformat runs on software. Every team member relies on a personal stack of AI tools, coding agents, and SaaS products to do their work. As the team grew, so did the complexity of managing it all. What started as a handful of individual subscriptions quickly became a fragmented, high-friction operational layer that was pulling leadership time away from product and customers.

This created a series of compounding problems for anyformat’s finance and leadership team:

  • Invoice chasing was consuming up to 2 days per month. With every team member subscribing to their own tools independently, invoices arrived scattered across personal inboxes, different email addresses, and multiple billing portals. Juan, as CEO, was spending up to two full working days every month manually tracking down receipts and reconciling expenses.
  • No centralized visibility over software spend. There was no single place to see what tools the team was using, what they were costing, or whether budgets were being adhered to. Expenses were spread across personal cards and accounts, making it impossible to get a clear picture of the company's actual SaaS spend at any given moment.
  • Team autonomy without accountability. anyformat gives team members the freedom to choose their own tools, a deliberate cultural choice to let engineers and operators work with what makes them most productive. However, without a structured system, this autonomy came without traceability. There was no easy way to know which tools were actively being used, which had been forgotten, or which could be downgraded or cancelled.
  • Scaling the team meant scaling the problem. With plans to grow from 5 to 15 employees, onboarding new hires to their tool stack was an entirely manual process. It required direct coordination with leadership, and with no centralized control over subscriptions and billing, off-boarding was equally tedious. There was no easy way to cancel subscriptions when needed, a risk that would only grow as both headcount and the number of active tools increased.

Cardboard brings instant visibility

Juan discovered Cardboard and became a regular user within a week of his first conversation with the Cardboard team. The setup was straightforward, and the impact was immediate.

With Cardboard, Juan and the anyformat team were able to:

  • Map every subscription to its own virtual card: instantly seeing which tools were active, what they cost, and who was using them
  • Assign ownership per tool: linking each subscription directly to the responsible team member, removing the need to chase anyone for invoices or receipts
  • Set budgets by role: defining spending limits in advance so the team could operate autonomously without losing financial control
  • Gain real-time visibility across the entire stack: replacing a fragmented, inbox-based process with a single, organized view of all software spend

Key benefits

Before Cardboard

  1. Days lost every month manually chasing receipts and reconciling expenses
  2. Receipts scattered across personal inboxes and billing portals
  3. No central view of active tools and costs
  4. No ownership or traceability per subscription
  5. New hires dependent on leadership to get tool access

After Cardboard

  • ~2 days of monthly admin eliminated
  • 95% of receipt collection automated
  • 30+ subscriptions managed, categorized, and assigned centrally
  • Every subscription linked to its own virtual card and a responsible owner
  • Day 1 self-serve onboarding for every new hire

Why this matters for scaling companies

anyformat is the kind of company Cardboard was built for. A lean, AI-native team moving fast, where everyone uses tools and the founder is closing enterprise deals, managing investors, and keeping the product on track all at once. At that pace, financial operations rarely get the attention they need until the invoices pile up and the spend becomes impossible to track.

Cardboard closed that gap. With its seed round done and expansion underway, Juan is not hiring someone to manage the complexity that comes next. He is building infrastructure that handles it automatically: new hires onboarded onto Cardboard from day one, budgets set by role in advance, and full spend visibility without chasing anyone.

"As you come to anyformat, I don't want to be hand-holding you through setup. Here is the material, do your own thing. That means you can scale from 10 to 15 to 100 people without any overload on these kinds of processes."

— Juan Huguet, CEO & Co-founder, anyformat

The same system that eliminated two days of monthly admin is now the foundation anyformat will build its vendor governance and compliance controls on as it moves deeper into enterprise territory.
